Experimental Particle Physics and the Network -- from Flirtation to Total Dependency: Richard Mount, Stanford
This talk will describe how large-scale, collaborative data-intensive science becomes highly reliant on networking at all levels. The talk will illustrate how the evolution of processing, storage and networking capabilities and cost have changed the way in which such science is performed. Taking the example of the ATLAS experiment I will examine in more detail how the network becomes a vital component of an intercontinental system of linked processing and storage facilities.
